Service and Outreach:
Served as a referee for
Hydrobiologia, Journal of Plankton Research,
and for the book
Evolution: From Molecules to Ecosystems
(based on a workshop held at the University of Valencia in November 2000). The publication of my 2004 paper in
PNAS
was covered by numerous newspapers and magazines in the US and abroad, including the
San Francisco Chronicle, the
Daily Telegraph
(London), the
Basler Zeitung
(Switzerland),
Science Times,
Biophotonics International, and
Wiedza i òycie
(Warsaw). I was interviewed about the research on the Bob Rivers Show of CBS Radio in Seattle.
Teaching:
Served as Teaching Assistant at Harvard for Biological Sciences 10, Introduction to Molecular Biology, fall 1993; Biological Sciences 14, Genetics, spring 1995; helped develop and served as sole teaching assistant for the advanced undergraduate course Molecular and Cellular Biology 142, Chromosomes, spring 2000. Between 1994 and 2001 supervised the laboratory research of three undergraduates writing honors theses at Harvard College. Between 1999 and 2004 taught cytological techniques with bdelloid rotifers to six professors, post-doctoral fellows, and graduate students from the USA, Belgium, Italy, and Spain.
